Happy 6 Month Birthday!

My baby is already half a year old!

Whhhhaaaaattttt!?

Time please slow down.

PLEASE.

Owen’s stats…

On Owen’s 4 month birthday he weighed in at 17.4 pounds and was 28 inches long.

What’s he’s wearing…

Most of the clothes Owen’s wearing are 6 months and a few 6-9 months. There are still a few 3-6 month pieces thrown in the mix but he’s outgrown the majority of those. I think for the most part Owen is pretty spot on with sizing for most baby clothes. The only place we’re running into a problem is with footie PJ’s because he’s pretty long so he’s running out of room to grow into his jams. I feel like it was just last week when I switched out his jammies to his 6 month ones…guess we’ll have to get some new PJ’s sooner that we thought.

What he’s eating…

We started giving Owen rice cereal last month.

“Uggghhh! What is this lumpy garbage Mommy is feeding me?”

He only had it a few times. Now we’re going to be start introducing vegetable and fruit purees. Starting with with avocado, that seems to be the new trend as the baby food to start with.

The response to avocado was totally different than with the cereal. He really liked it! He also made a big mess with it… but that’s half the fun, right?

We will start by giving him cereal and a puree once a day and eventually we will work up to twice a day. Owen will still nurse for all other feedings.

How is he sleeping…

Ohhh you have no idea how bad I wish I could say that he’s sleeping through the night. But- he’s not! Still going to sleep close to 10 and then one or two wake ups until he eventually is up at 9:00am.  He’s also still sleeping in his Rock n’ Play in our room. I think the big move to his crib might be coming soon… or maybe not. I love having him in our room. It makes those nighttime feedings so much easier!

I actually like the sleep schedule that he’s made for himself. With Owen not going to sleep until around 10 it allows us to have dinner with out rushing, get Owen a bath and have some good ‘ol family time. Which is my favorite time!

Baby’s favorite thing to do…

He still loves being in his jumperoo but he also loves to be on the floor rolling around.

Now that he is able to move more on his own he really likes playing with his toys. Recently I bought him a few toys that are more interactive. They light up and make noise when he plays with them. These new toys are a hit!  Owen has also fallen in love with playing peek-a-boo! You don’t even have to hide to get him to laugh.. sometimes just saying “peek!” gets the laughs!

Mommy and Daddy’s favorite thing to do with Owen…

My favorite thing to do is play Peek-A-Boo with Owen. He thinks it’s hilarious… and his laugh is simply the best!

I think Greg would say that his favorite thing is playing with Owen when he gets home from work. Owen’s face lights up when Daddy gets home! He smiles and shreaks with excitement. It’s adorable!

“Wow, Daddy. You’re good at this! You should be an engineer or something.”

Favorite monthly memories…

- Celebrating my first Mother’s Day! We had a great day spending family time together. Greg got me a bike seat for Owen and we went on a nice bike ride together through Cuyahoga Valley National Park. It was perfect!

Owen’s firsts…

-Sitting up on his own.

“I’m hanging on this here toy and so far I’m doing pretty good!”

- Having solid foods.

- Cold. Poor baby was sick for about 4 days with an upper respiratory infection.

It was hard to see him not feeling well. We did a lot of cuddling and napping those few days.

- Walk in his, well Greg’s, new baby backpack!

Developmental milestones Owen has reached…

Rolling over, all the time! Last month Owen started rolling and it was slow going at first. But now little man rolls over form back to belly as soon as you put him down.

- Starting solids, if that’s a developmental milestone.

- Sitting up with out help. We still keep the pillows close by him because there are still some tumbles.

- Holding up his own bottle…. he doesn’t get to work on that skill too often. But, with the little practice he has he’s doing a good job!

What happened the past month that you didn’t expect…

I didn’t expect Owen to just sit up without assistance… I thought he would be sitting with help for a while and working his way up to sitting on his own. But for our little guy- that was not the case! It happened overnight… one day, we sat him up and he just did it.

Next month we’re looking forward to…

The weather getting nice so that we can get outside more often. I’m looking forward to celebrating Father’s Day with Greg. He’s a great father and deserves to be celebrated! Ohhhh and maybe some crawling starting soon. Maybe. But honestly, I can’t say that I’m really looking forward to it … but I know that Greg is. He can’t wait for Owen to start moving all around!

HAPPY 6 MONTH BIRTHDAY, OWEN!

These last 6 months have been ah-maz-ing! We are starting to see your wonderful personality come through more and more. Your laugh is contagious and your smile melts our hearts! We love you lil’ man!

Happy 5 Month Birthday!

Tomorrow is Owen’s 6th month birthday so I figured I should post his 5 month update. haha! I told you I wasn’t a very good blogger lately.   Owen’s 5 months birthday was April 17th, actually the same day as Greg’s 27th birthday! This post has been written for a while but I’m a lazy bum and haven’t posted. Oops! Well here’s the 5 month recap…

Owen’s stats…

On Owen’s 5 month birthday he weighed in at 16 pounds and was 26 1/4 inches long.

What’s he’s wearing…

Owen is wearing mostly all 6 month clothes now. But he still has a few sleepers that are 3-6 month and he’s wearing some things that are sized for 9 months. It really just depends on the outfit and the brand of clothing. He’s a growing boy!

What he’s eating…

As of his 5th month birthday, which was Monday the 17th, Owen was still exclusively breast-fed. We are going to start cereal in a few weeks and then the plan is to start fruit and veggie purees when 6 months hits.

How is he sleeping…

I would LOVE to say he’s sleeping through the night but that is not happening. Owen is falling asleep around 10 and sleeping until sometime in the 4am hour. He falls right back to sleep after he eats and then sleeps until sometime in the 7am hour and usually falls back to sleep again until 9am. Then it’s up and at ‘em to start our day. His naps are getting shorter and much more predictable. Even with his change in napping and waking up during the night here and there he is still a very happy lil’ guy!

Baby’s favorite thing to do…

- Bounce around in his jumperoo… he moves in that thing like a wild man!

“Hello! This is my Jumperoo and I love it!”

- Chew on teething toys, especially the freezer ones.

Mommy and Daddy’s favorite thing to do with Owen…

I love, love, LOVE getting Owen to laugh. He has the most adorable giggles and belly laughs. Love it! Daddy’s favorite thing is just spending time with him. Now that Owen is more interactive Greg really loves just hanging out with him.

Favorite monthly memories…

- Owen bounced himself to sleep in his jumparoo! Hilarious, check it out!

- Our trip to Florida to visit family.

Getting some smooches from Great Grandma Florida!

-Celebrating Greg’s birthday!

Happy Birthday, Daddy! Are you planning to share that ice cream?

Owen’s firsts…

- Easter

- Getting his first teeth!

- Owen’s first airplane ride!

- First trip to Florida

Developmental milestones Owen has reached…

- Rolling over! Owen started rolling over back to belly on the first day of his 5th month.

- Grabbing his feet. He finally found his right one.

- His hand-eye coordination is developing! He sees what he wants and really focuses on getting that toy into his hands… and then usually into his mouth. haha!

What happened the past month that you didn’t expect…

I didn’t think that he would have gotten teeth as earlier as he did. But little man handled ‘em like a champion! Hopefully he always does that well cutting teeth.

Next month we’re looking forward to…

Owen rolling around more. He will be excited when he can roll over from his belly to his back. Sometimes he rolls onto his belly and then gets cranky because he doesn’t want to be that way anymore. So once he gets the hang of the full roll he will a happier little dude!

HAPPY 5 MONTH BIRTHDAY, OWEN!

You have brought so much happiness to our lives. We love you so much, little man!!

I Might Be a Bad Blogger…

But I’m a darn good mommy!

Being a stay at home mom the biggest benefit is that I get to do everything with Owen. I take full take advantage of it too. It’s awesome!

We get to lay on the floor and play and I get to read to him… then watch him try to eat the pages.

I get to spend hours making that lil’ guy laugh and smile. Ohhhh the smiles, love ‘em! Not to mention give him tons of kisses and just love on him all day!

I love getting to see him have those, “Ahh Ha! Moments” when something clicks and makes sense.

Maybe soon he can have an, “Ahh! Ha! Moment” that when he pulls my hair- it hurts!

I know that my house cleaning duties have also taken a back seat over the last 5 months but hey, I don’t identify myself as a housewife… I’m a stay at home mom.

I wonder when I have to let that motto go? Hummm…

I’m a bad blogger and a slacker of a housewife all because I’m a darn good mommy.

Gummy Grins No More

I love Owen’s gummy grins and soon those grins will be joined by two little teeth. That’s right- TEETH! His bottom two front teeth started to peek last Saturday.

Little man has been a drool machine and chomping on anything he can get his hands on for a while now. So I guess I shouldn’t be too surprised that he has teeth are already coming in. I wasn’t expecting him to get teeth this soon… but they are coming and there isn’t anything to stop ‘em now.

Owen as been handling these teeth like a champ! For the week or so before the teeth made their appearance I just figured he was having a little bit of a rough patch with sleeping and that was why he was a little on the cranky side from time to time. But now we know the real reason behind those restless nights- these little pearly whites!

The last few days he has had a low grade fever. I called his pediatrician’s office and they said with teething a fever is to be expected and to try to take his temperature twice a day to make sure that it’s not spiking and becoming higher than it should be.

As much as I was surprised to see Owen get his first teeth at 4 and a half months old… I was also a little bit sad. I loved those gummy little grins and I’m going to miss them.

Owen would you please slow it down a bit- Mommy doesn’t want you to grow so fast! I mean rolling over and getting teeth, both in two weeks. Come on now!?

Pediatrician Visit- 4 Months

Even though Owen is almost 5 months old he just had his 4 month pediatrician’s visit this past week. It was a routine visit and his doctor said nothing but good things! He is growing so fast- I can’t believe it! Since his last visit to the doctor Owen has grown so much! He now weighs in at 15lb 7oz and 26 inches long. He is in the 50th percentile for his weight and 90th percentile for his height. Which is a difference from his 2 month pediatrician’s visit where he was in the 75th percentile for both. He’s going to be long and lean, just like his Dad!

We talked about starting solids by introducing cereal and then eventually starting giving Owen vegetable and fruit purees. She suggested starting him on solids soon. The only real reason she suggested starting them would be because for some babies having a fuller belly helps them to sleep better during the night… but I’ve heard mixed reviews on that. My thoughts are Owen will sleep through the night when he is ready to sleep through the night. He is getting the right amount of sleep he needs and he’s a happy, healthy lil’ dude. So that’s good enough for me! I also know that there is more nutrients in breast milk than there is in cereal anyways. So for now we are sticking to just breastfeeding.

Starting solids is still looking like an adventure we will take on next month. And who knows… maybe we will just skip cereal and go right into fruits and veggies.

Greg was home on Monday when we had Owen’s appointment so he went along. Out of the three of us I’d say that he had the most fun while we were at the doctors office.

Owen got shots and, again I nearly cried from seeing him in so much pain. It is so sad seeing his lil face get all red and him chin quiver. Poor baby! It’s gotta get easier eventually, right?

His reaction to these shots were much like his 2 month pediatrician visit. He was a little cranky here and there but nothing that lots of snuggles, hugs & kisses and sleep couldn’t help.

Little man had it rough… getting shots + cutting teeth= crummy day!

A Holy Splash!

Ok, so it was more like a sprinkle… a Holy sprinkle.

Owen was baptized back in February and after going through all the pictures from that day I’m finally ready to post!

As you might remember from a few months back I decided to have Owen’s baptismal outfit made from my wedding dress. The outfits that we had made are beautiful and now that we have the outfits I’m 100% thrilled that I decided to have them made! One day I’ll write a post about them and put pictures of the girl outfit on here too.

Here is the handsome little guy in his baptism outfit!

We had a great time celebrating Owen getting baptized with our family and friends. We are really blessed to have such great people who support us and love us unconditionally. Having Owen baptized was something that was important to me. I grew up going to church every week and there I learned how to give selflessly, be compassionate and most importantly – always have faith. It is where I built the foundation of who I am today and I value it so much.

My God Parents are also very important to me. My Nanny and Uncle Mike are two of the most wonderful people I have in my life. They are so genuine, thoughtful, caring and kind. Most importantly, they always supported me in my faith and in everything else that I’ve done in my life. Together they played such a big part of who I am today. I am 25 years old and still learning life lessons from them. I could go on and on about how much I love and admire them.

Owen is one lucky lil guy because he has not 2 but 4 God Parents. I wanted Owen to have just as rewarding of a relationship with his God Parents as I have with mine. So we asked Nanny and Uncle Mike to be Owen’s God Parents too. Along with my cousin, Brett and Greg’s sister, Kelly.

Each of the people we asked to be Owen’s God Parents will have their own special relationship with him and I can’t wait to see those relationship build as he gets older.

I have a lot of pictures that I want to put into this post. To make it easier I’ve put them all on here in a gallery. If you click a picture, it will get bigger and you can click through them that way too.

Oh, and don’t mind Owen flipping the bird in the second picture… he didn’t realize we were in church. haha!

Roll baby, roll!

Ladies and gents… we have ourselves a roller!

Owen rolled over for the first time last Sunday. He has only done it a handful of times but it’s awesome!

His first few rolls have been back to belly. Typically babies roll from belly to back first. But not our lil’ guy- he’s breakin’ all the rolling over rules!

He has been squirming all around like crazy the past few weeks. So we had a feeling rolling would be coming soon.  We’ve been putting a blanket under his play mat because he scoots and squirms right off it.

As I mentioned Owen has only rolled over a few times and every time that he’s done it it’s either when he’s just in a onesie or just a diaper. I think it helps that he can feel everything when he has less clothes on.

I was making dinner the first time Owen rolled over so I didn’t get to see it but Greg did. Every time that Owen gets from his back to his belly he gets this look on his face like, “OH YEA, I DID IT!” paired with a adorable gummy grin!

I did get a little video that I took of him rolling over for the second time. The end of the video got cut off because I was using my phone to take the video and the SD card was full. So you only get one min and 36 seconds of the rolling over magic…

The past few days have been roll free. But he does spend a lot of time laying on his side just hanging out.

I think the lack of rolling has something to do with his teething. It’s hard to roll around when your hands are always in your mouth!
